Getting me to do fashion shoots…

…usually involves a bit of arm twisting if I’m honest. I’m primarily a wedding and portrait photographer so unless it’s a big shoot with professionals throughout I tend not to touch it.

With fashion and commercial shoots in particular the whole shoot is only as strong as the weakest component. The make up artist, stylist, models and location, not to mention the photographer have to know what they are doing or else it can all fall apart.

With the Annabelles Wigs shoot we were at the Daniel Galvin Salon in London. This is the biggest salon in Europe with celebrity hairstylist Lino Carbosiero sorting the hair, Joey Bevan handling the styling, Amy Prifti on Makeup, Holly Higgins (Uk and Irelands next top model 2011 finalist), Katie Green (Special K girl plus many others), Claire from Annabelles Wigs (overseeing everything) and myself on the Camera we made a great team.

The day started early, 5.30am to be exact, finishing at 6pm but you know what? It was amazing. We all got on famously well and nobody fell in the way of anyone else. Claire bought Pizza (thanks Claire) and we pretty much had the whole downstairs of the salon to ourselves.

For the natural light look we used pretty much everywhere. This is upstairs by the front door.

Swimwear Photography – Bugsy Pants

Last month I found myself on Brighton beach on a very sunny, but windy, day.

I was commissioned by Claire from Bugsy Pants to photograph her new range of swimwear.

We’d previously arranged this shoot for the week before but the weather was GRIM and after a little arm twisting we changed the date.

The thing is, weather is key to this kind of shoot. Blue skies are a must and it’s why Next and other major retailers carry them out in the Seychelles and Maldives! It was very windy and I was cold..despite being in a fleece!

But, windy weather is often a plus, goosebumps don’t show and generally considering where we were there wasn’t any hassle from passers by.

I was called a meanie by a couple of elderly passers by for making Sara and Simone stand out in the cold though!

Beach Huts are useful for Swimwear Photography, lots of colours, lots of choice.

Hair photography....is not as easy at people think

Hair Photography

Hair Photography really isn’t very easy, lighting the stuff is one problem….then you have to remove the individual hairs from the main area or focus or it just looks a mess.

You need a makeup and hair stylist as well and an attractive model!

Then with good lighting, direction and ability this all comes together. Second to watch and jewellery photography this is one of the hardest things to do (properly).

The images above are results from the third shoot I’ve done with Annabelles Wigs. It’s been a journey but I’m pleased to say we’re finally getting results.

When we first started we didn’t have a direction, or a hair stylist but now the results are high end and ready for print.

Because of this level of difficulty and exacting standards I shy away from commercial work. I’m always up for a challenge but only when it’s dealing with people on a personal level like above. Nothing is more soul destroying that taking multiple pictures of jeans!

It isn’t the taking of the photos themselves but generally for every hour behind the camera there is 6 in photoshop and that’s where it really grinds you down and I’m a people person!

So it’s late spring here in the Northern Hemisphere and this signified the Fisher Clinical Services Spring Ball.

The event was held at Shoreham Airport and had a Poirot murder mystery theme running throughout. It was exceptionally well put together with possibly the biggest Marquee I’ve ever seen:

Told you it was big!

There was a big brass band and singer all in a very 50′s swing and a flight simulator. Oh, and us!

Corporate Photo Booth Hire – What we did

The photobooth was there all night, as were the props and my lovely girlfriend / assistant Laura. Whilst I was covering the dinner and more reportage shots Laura had control over the Photobooth.

The setup we use is about as high end as you can have without actually taking pictures in a studio. The colours and lighting are right, everything is wireless and all the images are editing in full. Choosing us for Corporate Photo Booth Hire is a very wise thing to do….because we know what we’re doing!

My job for the evening was to capture the moments as they unfolded

Everyone likes a laugh and Corporate Photo Booth Hire allows you to make fun of yourself and others. It provides a long lasting images to look back on for years to come and gives the office something to chuckle about for weeks afterwards. Plus, they’re cheap. (From us anyway) With prices starting from £200 only usually going up if there is distance to travel.

Fashion Photography | Clothing Photographers in Sussex

We’ve had some commercial work in the studio in the last couple of weeks. One was for Anna Linderholm, the dressmaker.

Anna, whilst being a designer for a while is just moving into the mainstreamand I was commissioned to take some photos of here work.

She makes all the dresses herself and they are all custom in their fit. I sense big things for this lady as the clothing is of an exceptionally high standard.

As I’m mainly a Sussex Wedding Photographer I don’t get asked to do much commercial work but when I do I quite enjoy it.
