Sussex Portrait Photographers | Tessa Cushan

Sussex Portrait Photographers…

Are difficult to find, (if you want a good one). The digital age has watered down, blended and ripped apart what would traditionally been known as a ‘Formal Portrait‘ leaving a lot of well established photographers reluctant to change scratching their heads.

What do people want from their Sussex Portrait Photographers ? I’m finding I have to be a master of all things in this respect. Some clients ask for natural light photography specifically saying they ‘Hate the Venture look’, which is a little strong but yes, over saturated high contrast images aren’t for me and yet others want studio work and are reluctant to move into the natural daylight side of things.

Either way, myself and other Sussex Portrait Photographers are trying hard to keep up and those of us with a real hunger for this type of work are always happy to try new styles if suggested to us.

Tessa (above) new exactly what she wanted from her portrait photography and left really happy, especially when she received her final, finished images.

So, if looking at one of the many Sussex Portrait Photographers out there whoever you chose, give us as much information as possible to assist you in getting the Portrait you really want.

Informal Wedding Photography , Relaxed images are so much better

Informal Wedding Photography

Informal Wedding Photography

Informal Wedding Photography

I’ve a lot of weddings to look forward to this year, more than ever before ( yay for me! ) yet one thing that happy couples are consistently asking for is what I like to call ‘Informal Formals’.

Informal wedding photography, the latest yet oldest craze is making a strong comeback, this time finding it’s way into Wedding Photography. Nobody really  likes their picture being taken and 90% of the people who enquire about my services have informal wedding photography in mind. They don’t want cheesy, posed or staged images and they don’t really want to be aware of my presence because as soon as they see the camera, or any camera, they freeze.

Why are people asking for Informal Wedding Photography?

Simply, it looks natural. Expressions and emotions aren’t masked by expectation. We all look the same when we know we are having our picture taken. We look rather obviously like we were posing for a photo. Good, Informal Wedding Photography should be like looking through a window, almost voyeuristic in the approach. The people in the frame need to look as they would do in real life to be a true representation of those that we know and love.

Is Informal Wedding Photography easy?

It comes natural to me, because I take pictures of people, not products. Plus, I’m a people person. Also, because I mainly use natural light in my images I can take wedding photographs in quick succession. There is no flash to recharge before taking another shot. This makes Informal Wedding Photography easier.

Take the image of Fiona above. Her biggest concern was looking natural on the day. So, we positioned her for the images, took the shot and then took another. Because I was interacting with the bridesmaids standing beside me and having a giggle Fiona burst out laughing too.

To do Informal Wedding Photography correctly usually it’s the second shot that’s the keeper, not the first.

With other styles you can date an album, Informal Wedding Photography is the most timeless and I think possibly the best type.

Informal Wedding Photography for 6 metres away, the last thing I want are people in the background looking anywhere other than at the bride and groom!

Beautiful Portrait Photography

Beautiful Portrait Photography …

isn’t just about the camera, the lighting, the portrait photographer or the equipment.

It’s also about the person in front of the camera and how relaxed they are.

Beautiful Portrait Photography is also about timing the shot just right and as is the case above, waiting for the wind to blow and catch the hair giving it this slightly swept look.

I love this picture as it says so much.

Portrait Photography | Andromeda Mystic

black and white headshot portrait photography

It was good to approach portrait photography a different way

Portrait Photography

I work a lot with actors and actresses. Portrait Photography of those who are famous, some not, most I’m not allowed to disclose the names of, to anyone.

Then there’s some I don’t actually know the name of at all. Introducing Adromeda Mystic.

Andromeda is a burlesque performer, I think. I don’t really know much at all. All I know is I was asked to do some portrait photography for her agent and a few other promotional shots.

So, as you can guess there isn’t a lot to talk about in this blog post!

A mysterious and enjoyable portrait photography session.

Boudoir Photography | Boudoir Photographers in Sussex

boudoir photography in london

For Abi's Boudoir Photography I went on location

Boudoir Photography

Is many different things to many different people. Some can’t understand why anyone would want boudoir photography at all whilst others sing it’s praises.

For the majority of women who come to me for a Boudoir Photo Shoot, and those that I go to, it’s about having something to either look back on, or to give their partner as a gift.

Trust is a big issue for everyone though, posing in underwear for a stranger scares many off (the above image has been cleared for display). It’s why I always take time to chat to anyone that has a Boudoir Photography session with me.

It settles the nerves and going forward I have an exact understanding of what someone wants, doesn’t want and the message they are trying to put across.

Something like this is exceptionally personal and I never forget that. I always steer well clear of anything considered trashy and rarely do nude unless specifically asked for it by the client.

When choosing someone for a glamour or boudoir shoot it’s always recommended to meet your boudoir photographer in advance to make sure they have a good personality and that they’re someone you’ll get on with.

That rapport can determine the outcome of a Boudoir Photography Photo Shoot more than anything.
